Director of Finance

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Employment type: Full-time

Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Finance is responsible for leading the finance team. This role is responsible for ensuring financial information is prepared accurately and on a timely basis, and that appropriate internal controls are in place. Key responsibilities include financial statement review and analysis, P&C1 & 4 review and filings, cash flow management, annual budgeting process, forecasting, and tax compliance. The role liaises with external auditors, regulators, tax authorities, bank contacts and internal audit (outsourced). Internally the role interacts with the finance team, actuarial, executive management, and other departments as required.

Ideal qualifications/competencies:

  • CPA, CA designation required
  • Minimum 10 years post-designation or relevant work experience
  • Financial reporting, financial planning & analysis, and managerial experience required
  • Insurance industry experience, ideally property & casualty
  • Technical accounting knowledge of IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts and related operating processes are an asset
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, along with attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and quickly adapt to shifting priorities
  • Strong people management, interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to convey technical information to a wide range of audiences
  • Proven ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Experience with Microsoft Great Plains or similar accounting system is an asset
