TitlePLUS Underwriter / Underwriting Counsel
Reports to Director of Underwriting / Chief Underwriter, TitlePLUS

LAWPRO is seeking an Underwriter/Underwriting Counsel for its TitlePLUS title insurance program, which is currently growing its business. The successful candidate will join a team of highly experienced counsel who are responsible for making decisions on a broad range of real estate and title insurance matters in connection with title insurance applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Review applications for both residential and commercial title insurance policies, applying underwriting knowledge to determine insurability
- Draft & recommend endorsements and exceptions to coverage when required in specific policies
- Respond to customer inquiries and participate in customer meetings with respect to policy and coverage matters
- Provide support to the sales, client services, and other internal teams
- Assist in the development of new products and provide recommendations on policy revisions
- Research questions of law and stay informed about changes in real estate, business, and title insurance law in Canadian jurisdictions where TitlePLUS operates
- Identify and adapt underwriting practices in response to changes in real estate law in specific jurisdictions
Position Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws/Juris Doctor and Member of Law Society of Ontario in good standing, strongly preferred
- 5+ years’ underwriting experience with demonstrated understanding of title insurance
- 2+ years’ experience in the practice of law, including real estate, preferred
- Possess strong customer service skills
- Capacity for taking ownership of underwriting decisions
- Be self-directed and well-organized
- Adaptable to change and efficient in managing multiple priorities and pressure
- Work well in a team as well as independently
