LAWPRO 2020 Program Approved by the Law Society of Ontario

Toronto, ON, September 11, 2019 – LAWPRO is pleased to announce that Convocation of the Law Society of Ontario approved its 2020 insurance program for Ontario insured licensees.

The LAWPRO primary policy is updated each year to address the current environment and risks faced by the Ontario bar. The base premium will remain at $2,950 per insured licensee for 2020 and some definitions have been clarified.

To help insureds determine when to provide notice of a claim or potential claim, the policy will define “circumstances” to be “any circumstances of an alleged, actual, or possible error, omission, or negligent act of which the insured becomes aware, which from the perspective of a reasonable lawyer or law firm could potentially give rise to a claim.” This obligation is in addition to the requirement to provide prompt notice of all actual claims.

The 2020 policy also includes other definition updates for further clarification of underwriting intention.
