Premiums, Payments and Refunds
How much HST is payable on my annual LAWPRO insurance premiums?
When is my premium payment due?
- The due date shown on your invoice, or
- 30 days from the date the invoice was sent
To avoid any disruption to your coverage or additional follow-up, we recommend making your payment as early as possible.
If you are unsure of your due date, please refer to your invoice or log in to your LAWPRO account.
How do I change my premium billing from lump sum to monthly?
To change your premium billing from lump sum to monthly, you must first update your payment information, then manually pay any outstanding balance from January until the month you make the change in the MyLAWPRO portal. Subsequent monthly payments will then be charged automatically.

For law firms (i.e. multiple lawyers):
To change premium schedules for multiple lawyers, log into MyLAWPRO as the managing partner and select the Firm tile (rather than your own lawyer account). Then,
1. Update your payment information for all lawyers in the firm from lump sum to monthly.
2. Manually pay the outstanding balance for each lawyer from January until the month you make the change. Subsequent monthly payments will then be charged automatically.

- Your invoice, and
- Your credit card or bank statement showing the payment
If you require documentation for tax purposes, you may request a tax receipt after the policy year has ended.

If I file an Application for Exemption today, how far back can I get a prorated refund?
Appreciating that it may take some time for you to complete and file your Application for Exemption form, a prorated refund can be issued for up to the 30-day period immediately before LAWPRO’s receipt of your Exemption form.
Any return of premiums is made payable to the original payor, unless otherwise requested by you and the original payor in writing. For those carrying the Real Estate Practice Coverage Option, we are not able to backdate for this 30-day period.
