Claims Counsel

Job description:

We are currently seeking lawyers to join the LAWPRO claims team. This is a permanent position in LAWPRO’s Claims Department.

Claims Counsel manage a diverse portfolio of files relating to claims against Ontario lawyers. LAWPRO lawyers assist Insureds directly or retain and instruct external legal counsel or other professionals to assess, strategize, repair, defend or resolve error or omissions proceedings.

Our claims team handles files in all practice areas. At this time, we are seeking lawyers with a litigation background featuring experience in one or more of the following areas: real estate, wills and estates, corporate/commercial or tax. Our claims team includes lawyers with varying years of practice and we will consider applicants with 5 years of experience through to senior lawyers.

Job specification:

The ideal candidate should:

  • have at least five years’ experience (additional experience is considered an asset);
  • have experience in any one or more of the following: civil litigation, real estate, wills & estates, corporate/commercial, tax or insurance coverage;
  • be able to identify and implement file strategy in conjunction with external counsel and the insured, and revise strategy where necessary to achieve the desired outcome;
  • take a proactive and creative approach to claims handling;
  • be keen to develop expertise in one or more areas of law;
  • have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work efficiently and meet applicable deadlines;
  • make effective use of technology;
  • be licensed and in good standing as a lawyer in Ontario
  • embrace the vision, values and goals of the company as a whole.
