Job Description:
We are currently seeking a lawyer to join the LAWPRO Office of the General Counsel in the role of Legal Counsel, TitlePLUS. Legal Counsel will be primarily responsible for advising on legal matters relating to TitlePLUS business initiatives and compliance obligations, and also providing legal advice and services for the Office of the General Counsel.
Responsibilities will include: drafting agreements; monitoring changes in the law and/or business climate; based on those changes, making proposals for amendments in underwriting or business processes; analyzing and disseminating relevant real estate/title insurance legal information throughout the TitlePLUS Department, including contributions to the TitlePLUS Department database; handling legal aspects of TitlePLUS relationships with lenders and various partners; and managing TitlePLUS department compliance with Standards of Sound Business and a diverse range of statutes, including any applicable privacy law and suppression of terrorism regulations.
Job Specifications:
The ideal candidate should:
- have at least five years’ experience as a lawyer;
- have knowledge of real estate, intellectual property, privacy law and e-commerce practice areas;
- understanding of title insurance is an asset;
- have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work efficiently and meet deadlines;
- have excellent legal drafting skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate complex legal concepts in plain language;
- possess acute attention to detail and above average analytical skills;
- be able to work with little supervision;
- have a demonstrated ability to focus for extended periods on independent projects;
- make effective use of technology;
- be licensed and in good standing as a lawyer in Ontario;
- embrace the vision, values and goals of the company as a whole.
