Job Title: Administrative Assistant: Reporting to Manager, Corporate Secretariat & Services
(Full-Time Permanent)

The Administrative Assistant reports to the Manager, Corporate Secretariat & Services and will provide administrative support to the department. This role will be responsible for, but not limited to, filing, operating diary systems, sorting mail, updating and maintaining databases, scanning, photocopying and collating materials for distribution for meetings. This position will be required to provide reception relief and may assist the Communication department with various administrative tasks. The successful candidate will be a team player with a professional demeanour who demonstrates initiative and wants to contribute in a results-oriented fashion towards the efficient operations of the department and LAWPRO more broadly.

Job Location: Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • •have prior administrative experience in an office setting;
  • •have formal training in administrative skills, with a Community College/University graduate preferred;
  • •have good knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and Lotus Notes, including database management;
  • •have strong attention to detail, plus excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • •have experience working in a team environment with many deadlines and a high volume of work;

Job Title: Assistant Vice President, Underwriting: Reporting to Executive Vice President
(Permanent Full-time)

Your responsibility as Assistant Vice President, Underwriting, will include preparing Board & Committee reports, dealing with professional liability program coverages (excess and primary), policy drafting and coverage analysis, involvement in other LAWPRO programs, assisting in the placement of reinsurance, developing and administering Board and corporate policies relating to underwriting and insurance, acting as underwriting liaison for integrated risk and compliance management processes, and undertaking special projects as assigned. You will also participate in coverage analysis ofclaims for LSUC, Excess and TitlePLUS programs and be a resource to TitlePLUS underwriting and claims, the Executive VP and the CEO for special projects.

The ideal candidate should:

  • -Be called to the Ontario Bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada (or other Canadian jurisdiction);
  • -Have held senior claims or underwriting management positions in the insurance industry;

Job Title: Claims Counsel: Reporting to Unit Director & Counsel
(Permanent Full-Time, 1 Position)

We are currently seeking a Claims Counsel to join our team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to handle interesting cases in a variety of areas of law. Claims Counsel interact with insured lawyers in investigating, evaluating, and resolving errors and omissions claims against them. They manage these claims in-house or direct external legal counsel and professionals in resolving them.

Job Location: Downtown Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • understand and participate in achieving the vision, values and goals of the company as a whole;
  • have between three to ten years of experience in civil litigation, corporate/commercial, wills & estates, and / or real estate;
  • be able to identify and implement file strategy in conjunction with external counsel and the insured, and revise strategy where necessary to achieve desired outcome;

  • be keen to develop expertise in many areas of law;

Job Title: Communications Co-ordinator: Reporting to Director of Communications
(Permanent, Full-Time, 1 Position)

We are looking for an energetic, skilled and results-oriented communicator to be part of a busy corporate Communications Department. The Communications Co-ordinator is responsible for the company’s internal communications activities(including the company intranet), co-ordinates the company’s social media and multi-media presence, and assists in developing communication strategies and programs as needed. The coordinator also assists with the company’s websites, and production of insurance program materials. Some administrative responsibilities and event management support are also part of the job.

The ideal candidate should:

  • a university or community college degree, preferably in a communications/public relations or journalism;
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience, ideally in a corporate setting;
  • proven skills in writing for print and the web;
  • proven skills in developing social media strategies and using social media channels in a corporate setting;
  • an understanding of video production and editing software;
  • confidence writing for a professional audience(lawyers);
  • strong interpersonal communication skills and an ability to interact with both professionals and non-professionals;
  • advanced computer abilities;

As Compliance Counsel your responsibilities will include assisting in the implementation/operation of a comprehensive complianceand risk management framework and the provision of training and guidance to LAWPRO management and staff regarding aspects of the following: Privacy; Health & Safety; Anti-Money Laundering & Suppression of Terrorism; Code of Business Conduct administration and policy development; Legislative compliance management re: emerging issues; Complaints compliance management; Competition law compliance; Selected Human Rights compliance areas; Pension plan governance; Intellectual Property Policy administration; Data Management Policy Administration.

The ideal candidate should:

Job Title: Customer Service Representative: Reporting to Manager, Customer Service & Underwriting
(Permanent Full-Time)

The Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity company is a Toronto-based, professional liability insurer with a mandate to provide quality insurance services to our insured lawyers. As part of achieving our mandate, we are currently recruiting for one Customer Service Representative (CSR).

The role of the CSR is to provide written and verbal information on the insurance program to the members of the legal profession. The information the CSR provides includes: information concerning insurance coverages for the lawyer, account information on premiums, and information on additional programs such as risk management. The successful candidate will be a high calibre individual who will receive intensive training about the program and the Company before answering any calls from the public.

Job Location: Downtown Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • have at least 2 years experience providing customer service in a call centre environment;
  • have strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • have experience in Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • have experience working in a team environment and in stressful situations;
  • have strong organizational skills and be used to working in volume situations;
  • have a proactive approach to work;
  • have law, underwriting, or claims related experience, preferred;
  • English/French Bilingualism is considered an asset.
