Job Title: Corporate Administrative Assistant: Reporting to Manager, Corporate Secretariat & Services
(Full-Time Permanent)

The Corporate Administrative Assistant reports to the Manager, Corporate Secretariat & Services and will provide administrative support to the Office of the President, the Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel. This role will be responsible for, but not limited to, filing, operating electronic diary systems, arranging meetings, sorting mail, updating and maintaining databases, scanning, photocopying/collating and/or uploading meeting materials for distribution. This position will also be required to provide reception relief, support event management, and arrange travel from time to time. The successful candidate will be a flexible team player with a highly professional demeanour who demonstrates initiative and wants to contribute in a results-oriented fashion towards the efficient operations of the department and LAWPRO more broadly. It is essential that the successful candidate be very detail-oriented, organized and able to complete workflow processes accurately.

Job Location: Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • •have prior administrative experience in an office setting;
  • •have formal training in administrative skills, with a Community College/University graduate preferred;
  • •have good knowledge of all Microsoft Office software with a minimum Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word;
  • •have excellent knowledge of Lotus Notes, including database management;
  • •have experience working with Board portal systems (such as Diligent Boards);
  • •have the ability to produce “accessible” electronic documents compliant with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities standards;
  • •have excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • •have experience working in a team environment with many deadlines and a high volume of work;

Job Title: HR Compliance and Project Leader: Reporting to HR Director
(Full-time permanent)

We are looking for an HR Compliance and Project Leader with a background in management or operations, and leadership in overseeing processes and projects. This job also requires a solid understanding of compliance, which is key to our highly regulated business. We are a small HR Department and this role requires an individual with significant initiative, flexibility and energy, and leadership abilities, as well as a willingness to do extensive hands-on work. The role will be involved in some or all of the following: managing and documenting HR processes, implementation of the corporate document retention initiative in the HR department, benefits, HRIS, payroll audit, training, and other projects and initiatives.

The ideal candidate should:

  • have 10 years of experience as a human resources professional in a professional, financial or legal environment;
  • have a strong demonstrated interest in HR processes, technology and compliance;

Job Title: Operations Manager: Reporting to Chief Information Officer
(Permanent)

The Operations Manager is accountable for the secure and stable management of LAWPRO’s digital assets and information system environment. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this challenging role combines hands-on technology responsibilities with the management of a small team of IT professionals.

Essential Responsibilities

•Working with senior management, develop strategies for the maintenance and growth of LAWPRO’s information system environment to anticipate evolving corporate needs

•Participate in the implementation and enforcement of strategies, procedures, policies and technologies that will maintain and protect corporate digital assets

•Develop and maintain technology standards in accordance with regulatory guidelines and evolving best practices

•Enforce and enhance technology and process change control procedures

•Participate in system and software architecture planning sessions

•Work collaboratively and professionally with staff, management, consultants, vendors and internal and external auditors

•Participate in the maintenance and testing of the corporate business continuity plan

•Participate in company’s formal incident response plan; manage and document all information security related incidents

•Contribute to cloud, managed service, and VAR risk assessments

Project Management and Coordination:

•Works closely with the business units and Systems team to gather and document requirements

•Manages timelines and all deliverables associated with the projects

•Reports in a structured fashion on all activities related to the projects

•Works closely with the software development team and the business units, successfully plan, control and deliver project work within defined scope and budget

•Ensures that appropriate corporate software development governance processes are followed

•Continually monitors resource capacity and schedules for projects to ensure the feasibility of timely project delivery

•Continually communicates with the Systems team, business units, and executive management on project status and future project roadmaps

•Manages impact of changes on priority, resources, and scope, on current and planned projects

•Develops healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, vendors and peers

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have a university degree (preferred) or post-secondary diploma in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Have their PMP or equivalent designation
  • Have outstanding communication skills in English; skills in French as well would be a key differentiator
  • Have must have 7+ years of professional Project Management experience specifically managing software development and implementation projects of various size and scope
  • Be familiar with traditional “waterfall” and Agile project management techniques
  • Have experience with project management tools such as Plainview, Project, or equivalent
  • Have experience with software development management tools such as Jira or equivalent
  • Have a solid understanding of technology, software and IT projects
  • Have a proven knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, formal methodologies and disciplines for delivering new or enhanced applications
  • Have extensive practical experience and knowledge with techniques for successfully planning, organizing, monitoring, and delivering multiple IT projects simultaneously
  • Have strong leadership, coaching, collaboration, and relationship management skills
  • Have experience in the insurance or financial industry would be a key differentiator

Job Title: Quality Assurance (Contract): Reporting to Project Manager
(Contract)

The Quality Assurance Analyst is responsible for applying the principles and practices of software quality assurance throughout the LAWPRO’s software development life cycle. Reporting to the Project Manager, this new role will operate with the constructs of our "Agile" development environment, and will join in the shared responsibility of ensuring our corporate software - including in-house developed applications as well as "off-the-shelf" software - works according to expected standards of quality including reliability, usability, performance, integration, consistency, and security.

Job Location: Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • KEY REQUIRMENTS:
  • At least 8 years of experience in hands-on functional, exploratory and automated testing.
  • Strong background in testing in an Agile environment and experience in releasing product in short cycles.
  • Know-how in evolving testing strategies that involve third party applications and legacy databases.
  • Ability to review and analyze the business requirements and user stories to validate the testability and identify the testing requirements.
  • Expertise in triaging failures, identifying root-cause, and defining corrective actions at project level.
  • Collaborate with software/systems personnel in application testing, such as system, regression, performance, and acceptance testing methods.
  • Aptitude to determine the feasibility of automating test scripts along with their benefit to the project.
  • Superior documentation skills with regards to writing test scenarios and recording defects.
  • Adept at managing test cases anddefects to closure.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Comfortable working in a small, lean team, and in a collaborative, professional environment
  • An interest in business domain and key business drivers influencing quality of software applications.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated and highly energetic person.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience testing functionally complex products in legal, insurance and/or financial services industry, understanding of end-to-end flow for one or more products.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Exposure to Java based projects/programs/products.
  • Exposure to Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) environment.
  • Experience with JIRA, testing and scripting tools.
  • NICE TO HAVE:
  • Notions of configuration management, like SVN.
  • Familiarity with automated deployment processes.
  • A track-record of innovation in testing.

Job Title: Underwriting Counsel: Reporting to Vice President, TitlePLUS
(Permanent full-time)

LAWPRO is seeking an Underwriting Counsel for its TitlePLUS title insurance program. We are looking for an individual who is looking for an opportunity to use their legal skills in the field of title insurance, and is interested in assisting the real estate Bar across Canada.

Job Location: Toronto, Ontario

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have a law degree and be called to the Bar of Ontario or another Canadian province and a member of the provincial Law Society, or a Québec notary and a member of the Chambre des Notaires du Québec;
  • Have a strong knowledge of real estate law and practice;
  • At least two years’ experience in real estate practice, strongly preferred;
  • Have the ability to assume responsibility for underwriting decisions;
  • Have well developed verbal and written communication skills;
  • Have an interest in keeping up with developments in real estate law in all Canadian provinces;
  • Have an interest in helping the TitlePLUS program grow through contact with lawyers, Québec notaries and others;
  • Be a strong team player and a good listener;
  • Have the ability to be self-directed and well-organized, and work efficiently under pressure;
  • Have excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and knowledge of the TitlePLUS software, preferred;
  • Be available to work to 6:00 p.m. once a week or more often as required;
  • Bilingualism (English/French) would be an asset.
