Job Title: Assistant Manager: Reporting to Underwriting & Customer Service Manager

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Manager in our Underwriting and Customer Service Department. The role of the Assistant Manager is to assist the Manager of the Department in the implementation of the primary errors and omissions insurance program in a professional and cost efficient manner while ensuring prompt customer service support. This position will oversee select Program Coordinators in the Department including oversight of work and work assignments, individual goal setting and performance management and development. In addition, the successful candidate will provide input regarding yearly department goals, identify areas for improvement and implement solutions regarding department production, and make suggestions for annual program changes and improvements. The Assistant Manager will review various reconciliation reports on a monthly basis to ensure efficient and effective department operation and oversee special projects on an as needed ‘basis.

Job Title: IT Service Desk Analyst: Reporting to Operations Manager

LAWPRO has an immediate opening for two (2) IT Service Desk Analysts to assist in establishing a dedicated internal service desk function.

Key Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the Operations Manager, you will act as the first point of contact for end users to receive technology support;

Respond quickly and professionally to requests received through the IT ticketing system;

Collaborate with end users and technology staff to identify and troubleshoot PC and IP telephony related issues;

Assist in onboarding new employees from a technology perspective (e.g. user account creation, rights assignment);

Participate in the installation and maintenance of all PC hardware, software, and other related equipment; and

Maintain a knowledge repository to capture resolution efforts.

Job Location: Downtown Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have a minimum of two (2) years experience working in an IT Service Desk;
  • Be experienced using common IT Service Desk tools (e.g. Service Now, Remedy);
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and Windows 7/10 operating systems;
  • Possess knowledge of basic networking troubleshooting concepts;
  • Have understanding and experience isolating hardware issues and coordinating replacements;
  • Have experience utilizing desktop imaging tools and techniques (e.g. Ghost, Macrium);
  • Have knowledge of mobile devices, management tools and techniques;
  • Have knowledge of ITIL principles (e.g., change management, incident management); and
  • Have knowledge of BlackBerry, Android, and iOS operating systems.

It is preferred that the candidate:

    Have experience in any of the following technologies: Lotus Notes, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), VMware, System Center, McAfee EPO, Citrix, and Cisco IP Telephony;
    Have a College diploma and/or University degree in a relevant area (preferred);
    Have demonstrated ability and passion to learn new technologies;
    Be in pursuit of education/certification and preservation of knowledge in relevant areas of skill;
    Is adaptable, flexible and able to accept change;
    Have strong communication skills (speaking and writing) with a “client service” attitude in order to provide effective phone, desk-side, and email support; and
    Is able to meet physical demands - lifting and/or carrying ability of 15-30 lbs. or more.

Job Title: Manager, Corporate Secretariat & Services: Reporting to President & CEO
(Permanent, Full-Time)

The role of the Manager, Corporate Secretariat & Services is to provide services to the CEO and Board of Directors in order to facilitate the functioning of the Board and assist LAWPRO in meeting various corporate and regulatory obligations. The Manager will also oversee and co-ordinate the provision of support services to various members of the Executive Group. This position will be of interest to a team player who demonstrates initiative and wants to contribute in a results-oriented fashion towards the efficient operations of the Board of Directors and the Executive Group. There are a broad range of challenges offered, as the position also includes preparation of Board schedules and agendas, co-ordinating and/or drafting Board and committee materials, maintaining corporate records and minute books, liaising with Board members and representatives of the shareholder, corporate insurance procurement and implementing various corporate regulatory compliance programs.

Job Location: Downtown Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • have completed a Community College/University program;
  • have prior experience in corporate secretariat services;
  • have a demonstrated ability to oversee the work of direct report(s) and fulfill performance management requirements;
  • have excellent drafting and oral communication skills, plus strong attention to detail;
  • have experience working in a high volume environment with many deadlines;
  • be proactive in approaching work tasks, with the ability to set priorities independently;
  • demonstrate a high level of discretion and tact when handling confidential information;
  • have exceptional relationship management skills; and
  • have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, board portal software, and Lotus Notes, including database management.

Job Title: Quality Assurance (Contract): Reporting to Project Manager
(Contract)

The Quality Assurance Analyst is responsible for applying the principles and practices of software quality assurance throughout the LAWPRO’s software development life cycle. Reporting to the Project Manager, this new role will operate with the constructs of our "Agile" development environment, and will join in the shared responsibility of ensuring our corporate software - including in-house developed applications as well as "off-the-shelf" software - works according to expected standards of quality including reliability, usability, performance, integration, consistency, and security.

Job Location: Toronto

The ideal candidate should:

  • KEY REQUIRMENTS:
  • At least 8 years of experience in hands-on functional, exploratory and automated testing.
  • Strong background in testing in an Agile environment and experience in releasing product in short cycles.
  • Know-how in evolving testing strategies that involve third party applications and legacy databases.
  • Ability to review and analyze the business requirements and user stories to validate the testability and identify the testing requirements.
  • Expertise in triaging failures, identifying root-cause, and defining corrective actions at project level.
  • Collaborate with software/systems personnel in application testing, such as system, regression, performance, and acceptance testing methods.
  • Aptitude to determine the feasibility of automating test scripts along with their benefit to the project.
  • Superior documentation skills with regards to writing test scenarios and recording defects.
  • Adept at managing test cases anddefects to closure.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Comfortable working in a small, lean team, and in a collaborative, professional environment
  • An interest in business domain and key business drivers influencing quality of software applications.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated and highly energetic person.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience testing functionally complex products in legal, insurance and/or financial services industry, understanding of end-to-end flow for one or more products.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Exposure to Java based projects/programs/products.
  • Exposure to Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) environment.
  • Experience with JIRA, testing and scripting tools.
  • NICE TO HAVE:
  • Notions of configuration management, like SVN.
  • Familiarity with automated deployment processes.
  • A track-record of innovation in testing.

Job Title: Senior Counsel, New Claims: Reporting to Unit Director and Counsel, New Claims Unit
(Permanent Full-time, 1 position)

We are currently seeking a permanent Senior Claims Counsel for the New Claims Unit of the Primary Professional Liability Claims Department. As Senior Claims Counsel you will not only have carriage of your own files, but also assist with mentoring and managing workflows to the professional staff. This position will also involve assisting the Unit Director in the assignment of claim files to both the Primary Professional Liability and Specialty Claims Department.

Job Title: Underwriting Counsel: Reporting to Vice President, TitlePLUS
(Permanent full-time)

LAWPRO is seeking an Underwriting Counsel for its TitlePLUS title insurance program. We are looking for an individual who is looking for an opportunity to use their legal skills in the field of title insurance, and is interested in assisting the real estate Bar across Canada.

Job Location: Toronto, Ontario

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have a law degree and be called to the Bar of Ontario or another Canadian province and a member of the provincial Law Society, or a Québec notary and a member of the Chambre des Notaires du Québec;
  • Have a strong knowledge of real estate law and practice;
  • At least two years’ experience in real estate practice, strongly preferred;
  • Have the ability to assume responsibility for underwriting decisions;
  • Have well developed verbal and written communication skills;
  • Have an interest in keeping up with developments in real estate law in all Canadian provinces;
  • Have an interest in helping the TitlePLUS program grow through contact with lawyers, Québec notaries and others;
  • Be a strong team player and a good listener;
  • Have the ability to be self-directed and well-organized, and work efficiently under pressure;
  • Have excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and knowledge of the TitlePLUS software, preferred;
  • Be available to work to 6:00 p.m. once a week or more often as required;
  • Bilingualism (English/French) would be an asset.
