LPIC has launched an initiative designed to help it identify, monitor and encourage equity and diversity activities in a sampling of defence counsel law firms. More than 150 firms across the province are currently being surveyed about equity and diversity initiatives in place; aggregate survey results will be reported in a future issue of LPIC News.

The LPIC initiative is in keeping with the Law Society's commitment to equity and diversity, and builds on the LPIC Board of Directors' recent adoption of an equity and diversity policy.

The survey is the first step in LPIC's multi-year, multi-faceted equity and diversity program. Other program components will include information sharing, educational initiatives, and incorporation of equity and diversity criteria into contract compliance guidelines that already apply to firms who contract to do LPIC's legal work.
