LAWPRO has been awarded a financial strength rating of A (Excellent) and an issuer credit rating of "a"
from a leading rating agency – the 12th time that LAWPRO has received this positive rating from A.M. Best Co.
In addition, the rating agency gave LAWPRO a stable outlook – citing in part the company’s strong
capitalization, commanding market profile, improved underwriting performance and access to capital sources
held by the Law Society of Upper Canada for the benefit of the lawyers’ professional liability program.

Keeping lawyers central to real estate deals: LAWPRO responds to recent lobbying re: Reg. 69/07
LAWPRO does not support a request from the Title Insurance Industry Association of Canada (TIIAC) to have the Ministry of Finance revisit the need for an important piece of consumer protection regulation that ensures consumers always benefit from the guidance of an independent lawyer in a real estate transaction. LAWPRO continues to work hard to ensure the interests of the public as well as those of the bar are well represented in legislative and regulatory circles, and that officials in decision-making positions are well-versed on the implications of topics such as Regulation 69/07.

Base premium for 2012 unchanged; real estate lawyers, new calls and others to pay less
Despite continued growth in the number and cost of claims. LAWPRO will hold its base premium steady at $3,350 – the same level as in 2011 – for the coming year. LAWPRO is also reducing the premium for its Real Estate Practice Coverage Option (REPCO) to $250 per lawyer and is increasing the premium discounts for lawyers new to practice and for certain classes of practitioners – moves that will reduce premiums for thousands of Ontario lawyers.
